Good Neighboring Resource Guide
Stay in touch with your neighbors
Once you’ve met the people on your block, how do you keep that “neighboring” spirit alive? It’s a matter of keeping in touch. Any relationship needs regular communication; otherwise you will have to start over each time.
- Host a block party, preferably at nearly the same time every year, so it becomes a habit.
- Contact your neighbors about events. When there is a burglary, let everyone know so they can be on the lookout. Find reasons to have gatherings, like when someone moves in or has a baby.
- Develop a group email for your block. Send out news about block events and projects, neighborhood meetings, and other “newsy” items on the block (graduations, weddings, babies etc.).
- Create a food or babysitting club for the block or make a list of kids who are willing to shovel snow or mow lawns or other small jobs.
- Share information about Community Resources with your neighbors.
